Events Manager
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Events Manager to join our team. In this exciting role, you will plan, develop, and execute both in-person and online events that meet organizational goals, facilitating connections and knowledge exchange within the innovation ecosystem. This role also involves serving as the lead and point-of-contact for events we partner on with various organizations as well as managing our sponsorship program. This includes playing a critical role in the sector development initiatives that Innovate BC is leading as a member of the Executive Steering Committee for Web Summit Vancouver – a global technology conference that attracts thousands of tech leaders, investors, startups, and media representatives from around the world.
The ideal candidate is also a strong relationship builder, effectively engaging with our partners and companies supported through Innovate BC’s programs. They will support and manage relationships and general communications with funded partners, ensuring alignment with program goals and facilitating collaboration. This includes representing Innovate BC at partner events, providing ongoing support, and maintaining regular communication to keep a finger on the pulse of all things happening in B.C.’s thriving innovation ecosystem.
Reporting to the Director, Marketing + Communications, the ideal candidate has a strong background in event management, knowledge of B.C.’s tech ecosystem, excellent organizational skills, and a passion for creating meaningful experiences.
Compensation: $76,000 to $94,000 per annum
Reporting to: Director, Marketing + Communications
Location: Vancouver, B.C.
Work Arrangement: Hybrid role with a requirement to work in-office at least 2 days per week
Employment Type: 10-month contract with possible extension
What You Will Be Doing
- Plan, design, promote, and manage events (virtual, hybrid, and in-person) that meet organizational goals and reach target audiences.
- Manage events we co-host or partner on with different organizations, ensuring clear communication and alignment of objectives. This includes Web Summit Vancouver sector development initiatives.
- Manage the centralized intake and registration platform for sector development initiatives related to Web Summit Vancouver and other events.
- Create and manage post-event online surveys, and analyzes the success of events, identifying new opportunities for future events.
- Create content for event registration pages and other event-related content.
- Track event budgets and ensures financial objectives are met.
- Manage event logistics, coordinating with internal and external teams to ensure seamless execution. Build and maintain relationships within B.C.’s innovation ecosystem to foster collaboration and maximize event impact.
- Coordinate with partners on event promotion, content development, and audience engagement strategies.
- Support speaker outreach and coordination, including developing relevant communication materials to support their engagement.
- Manage the organization’s sponsorship program, developing and maintaining relationships with sponsorship partners, ensuring sponsorship agreements are met.
- Develop and review sponsorship packages and proposals that align with Innovate BC’s objectives.
- Represent Innovate BC at tech and innovation events as required, acting as an ambassador for the organization.
- Support or lead other marketing and communications projects as required.
What You Will Need
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in an events management or similar role.
- Knowledge of B.C.’s tech ecosystem is preferred.
- Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Technologically savvy, with a strong knowledge of MS Office 365.
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and handle confidential information with discretion.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proactive and self-motivated, with a strong sense of initiative.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Proficiency with tools such as HubSpot, SurveyMonkey, Zoom, and Luma (or similar platform).
